FLIR Scout TK Review and discussion

    Thanks Robert!

Got my Scout TK from Robert and very pleased.
Of course, it shipped immediately and got here quickly.

For comparison, I had a FLIR First Mate because it had user replaceable batteries.
Of course it was $2600 and worth every penny.

I sold it and got the Scout TK and I sure am glad I did.

Now, the Scout TK has an internal LiIon battery that's not user replaceable but I'm pretty sure I could replace it if I had to.
Robert reports he's seen no real problem with battery life which is a good indicator.

So far, I am totally pleased.

It does more than the FLIR First Mate and works just as well.

    I Highly recommend this unit.
Get one before the price goes up.
Like ammo, buy early and cheap, stock it deep.

Now, some thoughts on operational concepts.
    The first is power.

Just came to mind that since it charges with a 5V USB connector, I'm going to get one of those compact LiIon battery packs that folks use to charge their cell phones with .

That battery charger pack (about the 20% larger than a pack of Marlboro's) and a baby solar cellcharger, I figure I would be able to use the Scout TK continuously in the field.

Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

If you don't buy one of these now, I think you'll regret it.

BTW, it's a handheld thermal unit. That's all it is.
Don't go thinking about mounting it on a head mount or a rifle. That's not what it's for.
Use the Scout TK to pick out the hot stuff, and then use your PVS-14 or NV rifle scope to look at what you saw.

    IMHO

    Update:
Got the battery pack with dual USB charge ports and it has a built in solar charger.
They said it's 80000MAH which is 80 Amps.HA, We'll see but it was only $12.49 shipped.
Got a pair of them, if they work, they'll be hand for other stuff too.

Took a chance on something like that, but was skeptical of the mAh claim. It was all hooey. Just a glorified external smartphone battery.
