    Primatene Mist Returning

For those that did not get some before it was pulled from the OTC market a few years ago, it is now returning.

Amphastar announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its New Drug Application (NDA) for Primatene MIST (epinephrine inhalation aerosol bronchodilator suspension) for the temporary relief of mild symptoms of intermittent asthma (eg, wheezing, tightness of chest, shortness of breath) in patients aged ≥12 years.

Primatene MIST is the only approved asthma inhaler available over-the-counter in the US. It is delivered by a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) with a non-chorofluorocarbon (CFC) propellant. The new patented formulation of Primatene MIST contains the same active ingredient as the original Primatene Mist prior to its withdrawal from the market in 2011 for environmental reasons; the Montreal Protocol treaty had phased out products that contained CFC, which were deemed harmful to the ozone.

The new inhalation delivery system no longer includes CFC. It contains hydrofluroalkane (HFA) propellants and also features a built-in spray indicator and metal canister, replacing the glass container seen with the original Primatene Mist.

Primatene MIST delivers 0.125mg per spray and contains 160 metered sprays. The product is set to launch in pharmacies in early 2019.

    Nice! Thanks for posting.

So to the average reader who thinks "I don't have asthma so I don't need this" explain why it's good to have this.

This is a sympathomimetic drug (epinephrine inhaled). A sympathomimetic drug is a drug that mimics the sympathetic nervous system...think fight or flight.

We are experiencing some of the worst and heaviest pollen drops in years here now- and I will in a pine forest and work outside regularly.

Tried some Primatene last week when I began to develop some wheezing and had a lot of chest congestion and irritation.

Wife went to the local Walmart and they didn't have the spray but offered her tablets if she signed her life away. I saw an effect from the tablets in probably less than an hour. I previously couldn't lay down without heavy wheezing. Air tubes all inflamed and what not.

Is it the Ephedrine in there that makes them all paranoid about it? Let me guess some POS meth heads use that to manufacture junk?

Well it didn't keep me up and I was monitoring my pulse, breathing and blood ox levels. Pulse didn't go up more than 2-4 points -averages 60 or less resting- but within a short period of time my blood ox numbers went up a couple points to 99%. The next day my chest sounded much clearer with very little wheezing.

Great stuff! Get some and put some back.

    Glad it helped LD3...
Not sure why Mrs LD3 had to sign away, but thats the guberment for ya....the mist can be had on Amazon (SPAMazon) without signing anything. It prob has to do with them being the tablets. It has epinephrine 0.1% iirc, which is a bronchodilator. The tabs will take about 30-60 minutes to get into your blood stream vs. within minutes for the inhaled version. If you have time to wait, then tabs are great. Mrs PSD had the mist and it worked almost immediately. Tabs will be nice for cases like yours. Don't think they have you sign for it due to it being used for illicit drug manufacturing, as that would be pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) which the drug heads use for making meth....

How much did it set you back for the pills?

In case people don't know this....
Pills: Takes between 30-60 minutes to get into the blood stream...unless it is a sublingual (placed under the tongue to dissolve) where it takes effect within a minute or two. Example...Aspirin in tablet form for a headache vs. aspirin chewed up and dissolved in mouth...the chewed form is what you want a patient to do if they are suspected of having a heart attack so you want the effects fast. So, for us old timers out there, remember Richard Petty advertising for Goody's BC powder..."fast relief for headaches" that was aspirin in a powder form that you took. Well being in powder form it got into you system faster.

    Suppository: effects within minutes

    Inhaled: effects within 1-2 minutes

Injection: Intramuscular-depending on drug but usually 15-30 minutes. Intravenous-almost immediately

Now, this is only a rough guide...and there are a lot of factors to consider such as age, medical status of patient, drug involved, other drugs that have been used, etc.
