stimulus checks?
i rec'd an email today from an associate who lives in .............. Australia
he says
"I have not worked, lived, or paid taxes in the USA for in over 20 years.
I have Australian citizenship and the USA knows this.
Today I received a stimulus check in the mail.
my son, born in the usa got one as well."
note: i edited his comment to reduce identity...
he has dual citizenship.
he has lived and paid taxes here before moving to aussie land .
amazing..
for the record, my opinion...
the u.s.a should not have sent out stimulus checks to anyone... the country couldn't afford it.
if, however, they decided to send out checks.. then
they should have gone out in proportion to the taxes someone paid in.
for instance.
someone who paid in 100/year average over the last 5 would get a check for 10% of that average, equaling a check for $10
someone who paid in 50,000 a year average would get a check for $5000.

Stimulus checks should have been limited to those negatively impacted by the shutdowns. It was just a very expensive quick fix. I don't see it happening again. In the meantime my daughter, COVID-displaced since mid-March, is still waiting for her first NYS unemployment check. With any luck, her business might be able to reopen in July or August.
